June Reflections, Highlights and Favourites

Can you believe that half of the year is already over??

It’s honestly crazy how quickly this year has gone by – that certainly flew by quickly!! I don’t know if it’s the fact that I’m stuck at home because of covid or just because that’s how things seem to go, but things really have flown by quickly.

I’ve had such fun doing these monthly favourites posts – I get to reflect on the month, think about all the things that have happened and relive some really great memories. Plus, this acts as a bit of a diary so at the end of the year I can see all the fun things that have happened. Right now enough of my waffling; here are my favourites of the month. Please feel free to share your monthly favourites too!

Favourite book – Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer

I adore Marissa Meyer as an author. She is one of my favourites – particularly her two series, The Lunar Chronicles and Renegades. She hasn’t done a lot of stand-alone novels, so when I saw she’d written this one, which happened to feature a marine hospital and a focus on eco-friendly behaviour, I couldn’t wait to read it and let me say it did not disappoint. This book is a really cute story and has a wonderfully pessimistic academically-focused protagonist (which was a big selling point for me). Has anyone else read it? Or likes Marissa Meyer? Let me know!

Favourite movie – The Wish Dragon

At first, I was really nervous to watch this movie because it looked like a weird version of Aladdin. Aladdin was such a classic and updated or revamped movies tend not to be as good as the original, but thankfully the Wish Dragon was quite different and actually had charming characters, a good plot line and a really good message. Has anyone else watched it yet? What were your thoughts?

Favourite moment – Girl’s night with my bestie

OMG so this has been something I’ve wanted to do for over a year and a half (you can check out the post I did on the Ultimate Girls Night here). My best friend and I tried to make plans before the pandemic first broke out, and sadly they’ve kept getting delayed due to various restrictions but this month, we finally got the chance to do it. We watched movies until 3am, ate pizza and loads of other snacks and generally just had a great time. Out of all the things I’ve missed during covid, being able to spend quality time with friends like this is probably at the top of the list.

Favourite recipe – Strawberry cheesecake

I’ve never made cheesecake before – my grandmother is the standing queen of cheesecake in our family. However, one of my friends had her birthday this month, and she said that her favourite dessert was cheesecake, and she loves strawberries, so I figured why not try to make her a strawberry cheesecake? For my first cheesecake ever, I’m actually super happy with how it turned out. I’m also planning to try a blueberry one as something to tick off my summer bucket list – what do you think? Does anyone else like cheesecake, and what’s your favourite kind?

June eco-friendly reflection

Okay, this month’s eco-friendly challenge was my toughest yet. Honestly, I didn’t complete the challenge of donating/recycling/reusing all those items for every day of the month. However, I did get through a whole lot of it. I think that even though I didn’t technically complete that challenge, I still think it was a really good thing to try. I do feel like I have a new appreciation for all the items I decide to keep. The challenge to buy nothing new was a big success though – it was a little challenging when I saw some limited edition funko pops, but for the most part, it was good because I knew deep down I didn’t need what I thought I wanted to buy (and I’m planning to go back and grab those funko pops tomorrow hehe).

And there you have it! This month has been filled with lots of fun like going to the bush with my parents and boyfriend twice, visiting my grandparents in Durban, a lot of work both online and in-person and a few other things that I will be sharing with you soon (what’s life without a little suspense huh?) and all of these fun favourites.

What were your favourites this month? Did anything special happen? Let’s chat in the comments section!

Lastly, please don’t forget about the Summer Fun Blogging Competition!! Entries are closing in less than two weeks, so if you’re interested, please let me know (pop me a comment or a message in the comments) so that I know if the competition will go ahead. Remember, you can enter multiple times, and there are three categories: blog posts, creative writing pieces and art. You can read more about the competition here, though!

Otherwise, that’s all I have for you guys today! See you soon!

Lots of Love
