It’s official. December is here. And that can only mean one thing …
CHRISTMAS COOKIES!
Come on, be honest with yourself. No matter how healthy you are, or how much you say you don’t have a sweet tooth, I don’t think there is one of us who can resist getting into the holiday season by munching on a Christmas cookie. Let’s face it. We are all Cookie Monsters at this time of year, but who can blame us? There are just so many delicious treats to choose from. There’s gingerbread, sugar cookies, peppermint bark and much much more and the fact that they are in ample supply this time of year is just too much temptation to resist. This is the time of year where cookie lovers (and people in general) everywhere can eat and bake their hearts out. And the best part is that the holidays are a perfect no-judgement period.

Getting into the holiday season can mean plenty of people to entertain, events or activities to cater for or you just feel like you need the extra sugar to get you through the month of merriment. No matter your reason, the answer usually means that you need to make something for everyone to nibble on and what says spectacular hospitality and holiday cheer more than a Christmas cookie? Today I’ll be chatting about the best-ever Christmas cookies (at least in my opinion) in case any of you are looking for inspiration, but also what your favourite Christmas cookie says about you. I hope you enjoy it!

*Just a quick little disclaimer. The comments about what your favourite Christmas cookie says about you is purely opinion-based. It is not a personal judgement or meant to be a negative thing. It is intended to be just a fun addition to a discussion about Christmas cookies.
Gingerbread
Gingerbread is a classic Christmas treat. There are gingerbread houses, gingerbread men (and women), gingerbread stars, you name it. Heck when people think about what Christmas smells like, gingerbread usually comes to mind. It is the king of cookies and a holiday favourite, so if you’re looking for a cookie recipe, you really can’t go wrong with gingerbread/

If this is your favourite cookie, then you’re a Christmas enthusiast! You love Christmas and everything about it and couldn’t care what anyone else thinks about that. Jolly and Merry are probably your middle names, and you love spending the holiday with friends and family. You’re sweet and loving, but also a little sassy just like your cookie counterpart. Mapley sweet with some cinnamon-ginger spice.

Shortbread
Another fantastic holiday cookie is shortbread. Buttery-sweet, crumbly and melt-in-your-mouth fabulous, this cookie is quite simply a mouthful of deliciousness. The best thing about this cookie is that it only takes three ingredients to make and it is near impossible for it to come out not tasting delicious. Now is that a Christmas miracle or what?

Shortbread says you are loyal and dependable. There is a simple elegance about you that people are drawn too and you are the one that everyone can count on, especially during the holiday season. You deserve a cookie that makes you feel the same way others feel about you.
Sugar cookie
A holiday classic that is easy, delicious, and so much fun to decorate. Even though all of these cookies are typical during the holiday season, you really don’t get much more classic than this. Sugar cookies are so easy to whip up and what’s great is, much like gingerbread, they are great and fun to decorate. All in all, a real crowd-pleaser

You know that the best type of cookie, no matter the occasion, is sweet, simple and quick to assemble, so while everyone else is fussing about fancy desserts, you’ll be whipping up batches of sugar cookies that are destined for success. You’re practical and well-organised, but also like to keep things simple because you know what’s really important. Simple and comfortable, like a holiday film and hot chocolate on Friday night is your style. But just because you like things simple doesn’t mean you don’t like to have a little fun.

Chocolate chip cookie
I know, I know. This isn’t really a holiday-specific cookie, but it is sweet and chocolatey so why can’t it be a Christmas cookie? Chocolate chips are perfect all year round because really who can honestly say they don’t like chocolate? It is a favourite all-year-round, so if you need a soft and delicious cookie but don’t feel up to decorating it, then chocolate chips are your guys.

Who doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies? No one. Well, the same goes for you because I’m guessing you’re just as well-loved as this favourite and have millions of friends. You are a child at heart, and truly capture the joy and wonder of Christmas. A creative individual, or at least one with a vivid imagination, you may not always be the most organised or have a detailed plan, but it doesn’t matter because you’re with the people who matter most to you.

Oatmeal cookie
My younger brother would probably kill me for putting this as a holiday favourite, but I’ve done my research, and apparently, it is. I think the only reason he doesn’t like them is because he bit into an oatmeal raisin cookie thinking it was a chocolate chip cookie. But hey, that would scare anyone right? Oatmeal cookies (and all their varieties) are wholesome and comforting in a different way to the crumbly sweet cookies mentioned above. Not only that but they are considered one of the healthiest kind of cookies so you won’t need to feel quite so much guilt scoffing down a handful of these. Bonus!

If you’re favourite is the oatmeal cookie then I’m guessing you are the group mom? A nurturer by nature and someone who is always looking out for everyone else. Bigger than the Grinch’s once it grew three sizes, your heart is on your sleeve, and you are the first to lend a helping hand. Boring and predictable, though? Not a chance because you come packed with just as many surprises as your cookie counterpart. Of course, your cookie would be as pure and wholesome as you are.

Peppermint bark
Alongside that gingerbread flavour of cinnamon and ginger, peppermint is also a very popular taste during the holiday season. If you’re not such a huge fan of cinnamon and ginger or prefer a cookie to not just be crumbly and buttery, then peppermint bark would be a great alternative. Chocolate with a kick, this is perfect for anyone who loves their sweet to have another dimension.

This cookie says you’re bold and ambitious. You’re not afraid to mix things up and only care about the opinions of people who matter to you. You’re bright and proud to be a little different. You may be loud sometimes, but that is purely because of passion, but you are also a person people seek for help or advice. Your smile is always present.

Snickerdoodle
The last holiday favourite would be the snickerdoodle. Now I’d never heard of this cookie until about three years ago, and I’m so sad because of all the years I lost eating them. Now some might think that a snickerdoodle is just a version of a sugar cookie, but that is incorrect. What separates the snickerdoodle from the sugar cookie (apart from the cinnamon) is the cream of tartar. This gives snickerdoodles their signature tang and chewiness, which makes them so lovable. It’s another easy cookie with a bit more of a twist so perfect for those looking for something a little more interesting than a classic sugar cookie

What does the snickerdoodle say about you? As fun as the name, you are a breath of fresh air with a few quirks for good measure. There’s nothing wrong with being serious, but that’s not really your style (especially when it comes to Christmas cookies). You’re fun-loving and creative, and unafraid to show off your more unusual and quirky personality. You surround yourself with people who love it when you are just yourself, and you like being a little left-of-centre.
And so there you have it! I hope you all enjoyed reading today’s post. If you were reading for cookie inspiration then I hope you found it and are ready to either get baking or buy a few boxes of your favourite cookie, and who cares if a few go missing for taste-testing purposes right?
