Blogmas Day Twenty Four – The Christmas Tag

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house…

A blogger was awake and still typing away at her laptop!

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!! Can you believe that in less than 24 hours, Christmas day will be here?? This year has been above and beyond crazy, and it’s even scarier to think that it will all soon be over. Since it is Christmas eve, I wasn’t sure what kind of post to do, but then I remembered this really fun tag I saw on my friend Olivia’s blog. I’d never heard of this tag before and thought it would make a fantastic addition to my blogmas posts, and perfect for Christmas eve because it’s all about Christmas!! This tag works like any other blogging tag – I answer pre-set questions and then share the answers with you. Once you’ve read the responses, if you want to, please feel free to do this tag too! I’m not tagging anyone because it’s Christmas eve, and I don’t think people will have enough time, but if you want to do it, then please do! Just don’t forget to tag the original creator, Laurenyloves

Right, let’s take a final nosedive into some Christmas, shall we?

What is your favourite holiday movie?

Tough choice considering there are so many great ones out there, and I’m such a sucker for Christmas romance films. I would have to say How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the one with Jim Carrey) – it’s a classic, always puts me in the Christmas spirit, it is so weird and whimsical and something I watch with my dad and/or boyfriend every year. A close second would be Love Actually, followed by Noelle because they are just that great!

Do you open Christmas presents on Christmas eve or Christmas morning?

Christmas morning for us. Ever since I can remember, my brothers and I would wake up really early and open up our stockings. Then, we’d all go downstairs as a family, have tea/coffee and mince pies and then open our presents from Santa/the rest of the family. We’ve still kept that tradition as we’ve gotten older, except it’s not at 6am anymore.

Do you have a favourite holiday memory?

Hmm, I think sitting with my family all in our pyjamas drinking tea and having mince pies on Christmas morning when we were home, which wasn’t every year, is right at the top of my list. However, getting to celebrate Christmas at home last year, waking up next to my boyfriend and seeing the whole family (well, all those close enough) is a pretty close second.

What’s your favourite festive food?

Mince pies. I’m always a fan of sweet over savoury, and mince pies have a really special place in my heart at this time of year because it’s what we always have for breakfast on Christmas morning. Also, it’s only considered acceptable to eat them during Christmas for us, which makes it more special.

Favourite Christmas gift?

Probably the antique snow globe my parents got me. I’ve always loved snow globes and collected them when I was growing up, so for Christmas one year, my parents got me this double snow globe (I’m not sure what you call a snow globe with two levels) in a Christmas tree, with a small train that moves around the base and it plays Christmas music when you turn it on. It’s so magical and is one of my most prized possessions.

Favourite Christmas scent?

Oh, cinnamon, without a doubt! I love the smell of cinnamon, and it could be in anything (and I tend to put it in everything during Christmas). If my house/flat doesn’t have the smell of cinnamon in it during Christmas, you know there’s something wrong with me.

Do you have any Christmas eve traditions?

My family doesn’t have loads of Christmas traditions in general, but on Christmas eve, we would always watch a festive movie together. With my boyfriend, we also watch a Christmas film and have hot chocolate in our pyjamas before going to bed. We also leave out Christmas cookies, of course! Can’t forget about Santa.

What tops your Christmas tree?

At home, we have an angel that’s been in the family for years, although we swapped it for a star after a near break… I still need to get a topper for my Christmas tree in my Durham flat!

As a kid, what was the one (crazy) gift you always asked for but never received?

Probably a unicorn. We’ve always grown up with lots of animals around, so we’ve had dogs and cats, even pigs, and as a kid, I think a unicorn would have really added to the group. I’m still waiting for that unicorn, although not sure where I’d keep him here.

What is the best part about Christmas for you?

The best part for me is spending time with my family, boyfriend and other loved ones. It’s seeing a little bit of magic in the world, and people in general just being a little bit nicer and more cheerful and positive. It’s a great time to rest, relax, and remember that there is magic in the world.

I had such fun with this tag – I always love tags like this because it’s a chance for me to ‘bear my soul’ and share some fun facts about myself, but it also allows me to reflect on some great memories and while it did bring a few tears to my eyes writing parts of this, it was a super therapeutic exercise too and really made me remember so many wonderful Christmasses. Thank you all so much for reading!! What did you think of this tag? I know that the holiday season is almost over, so you may not have time to do this tag (although you could do it next year), but I’d still love to know some of your answers, so please share your answers to any of these questions, and we can chat in the comments section!

Lots of love

  1. What is your favourite holiday movie?
    National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Do you open Christmas presents on Christmas eve or Christmas morning?
Christmas Eve. You know why; I told the story behind that in the guest post I wrote on this blog. 🙂

Do you have a favourite holiday memory?
Hmm… probably not… I mean, I have holiday memories, I like Christmas, it’s just that no one favorite really stands out.

    What’s your favourite festive food?
Probably all the different kinds of cookies and stuff like that around Christmas.

    Favourite Christmas gift?
I need to think of something, because another blogger was asking this, and the deadline for submissions is coming up… I can think of one, but telling the story would require divulging something about myself that I don’t share openly on WordPress.

    Favourite Christmas scent?
Hmm. I don’t really associate scents with Christmas…

Do you have any Christmas eve traditions?
    Opening presents. See above. 🙂

    What tops your Christmas tree?
I never had a tree topper. I have an ornament of Chewbacca from Star Wars that I tried to make into a tree topper, but it was too heavy, it didn’t work. My grandma passed away this year, and while I was helping Mom clean out Grandma’s house, we went through her Christmas decorations, and I took some home with me, including an angel tree topper.

As a kid, what was the one (crazy) gift you always asked for but never received?
    Hmm… I didn’t really have any…

What is the best part about Christmas for you?
    Time off work!

    1. Wow thanks Greg for sharing your answers to so many questions! I have to agree with you about the Christmas cookies but I can’t believe you don’t associate scents with Christmas there are just so many
