Summer Blog Showcase: Entry #2

Helloooo all my lovely readers!

Happy weekend, crack open the sparkles and get cosy under your blankets because now are the two official days of the week we are supposedly allowed to relax.

This weekend, I am officially spending as much of it as I can in sweats and a hoodie, drinking litres of tea (bubble tea and normal as I finally found an amazing bubble tea shop really close to me so that addiction is getting it’s fair share of attention), making headway on the book I’m writing and hopefully getting some baking done.

Right, now today’s post is not meant to be about me jabbering about my weekend plans. It’s actually to share the second piece in the Summer Competition Showcase. This is entry #2 and it’s a creative writing piece (a short story), done by Maggie from Maggie’s Doodles. I hope you enjoy it!

Fireflies
“Jimmy, look!” Her hands cupped close in the fading evening sun, Liana took a step closer to her best friend.
Jimmy turned and grinned. “Hey, careful with that grip now,” he said, using this as a gentle excuse to place his hand on hers. “You don’t… want to crush them.”
Liana looked up now, her gaze troubled. “That’s a possibility?” she whispered. Her eyes danced uncomfortably back and forth, trying to find reassurance in his.
Jimmy smiled, caressing her with his gaze. “It’s alright,” he said.
Gently opening her whitened knuckles, he watched as they started to glow.
“There they are!” Jimmy said, mirroring her contagious smile.
They watched the fireflies take flight, illuminating their surroundings like little hovering stars. While she enjoyed the magical moment, he found that he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
