Hotel Quarantine Diaries #2

Heyyyy all my lovely readers! How are you all doing?

Today I’m bringing you the next instalment of my hotel quarantine series. I can’t promise reams and reams of nail-biting adventure (because I’m stuck in a square and literally cannot go anywhere), but I may have some adventure stories in the making for the end of this month so stay tuned for that series. Right, here are my latest stories from hotel quarantine!

Day three – 12/08

Today was my second day working the live chat for my part-time university job, and wow, was that an experience. I’m super grateful for the work, and it really kept me busy the entire day (I worked from 9am-5pm), but I am getting excited to finish this off.

Because it was results day this week in the UK, you can imagine just how up and down the emotions were of some of the people I was chatting to and honestly, my heart goes out to them. I remember just how stressed I was when I was waiting for my results and how anxious I felt waiting to hear back from universities to know if I’d gotten in or not. There is so much excitement when you know you’ve made it and the crushing disappointment when you don’t get in, so I’m glad I could help some students get through that roller coaster of an experience.

I received a negative result for my day 2 PCR test. YAYYYY!!! That means I’m on the right track to getting released on time next week. Woohoo!!

The food today wasn’t so great, but I’m holding out for tomorrow until I order takeouts.

In terms of exercise, here’s a fun little story about my exercise journey in hotel quarantine: My dad posed a challenge to my older brother many years ago to see if he could do more pushups than my dad. Now my dad is what we like to call an exercise addict. He is terrifyingly fit and does triathlons for fun, so that makes for a fun target and coach when it comes to exercising.

Anywho, the pushup challenge still stands as it has never been completed, and my dad always says the best way to train for it is to do 5 pushups, every hour, on the hour for two/three weeks. If you add it up, that is an insane number of pushups. Sooooo because I’m trapped in a room for almost two weeks, I decided I would also embark on this challenge, except I’ve decided to add in 5 squats and 5 situps to the mix. By the end of the day, I was a little sore… I won’t lie, but I am feeling motivated. Now I’m going to have a bath to soothe my aching triceps… or biceps … whatever muscles you use for pushups!!

Day four – 13/08

Day four quarantine, day three live chat – I am gearing to go!!

I’ve eaten my breakfast bar and banana (wow, I wasn’t even planning for that to be alliteration), and I’m ready for another long day of live chatting. My day in front of the screen went on as I expected it to go, a bit chaotic, lots of typing, but I am so glad that it has finally finished because I need a bit of a break now. That being said, it was a really easy way to knock three days of my quarantine, so yay!

Sadly I don’t have much excitement to share because most of my day revolved around my laptop, but I can share a few updates.

My hourly HIIT was getting harder, to put it lightly. I think I might have pulled a muscle in my shoulder with all my vigorous pushups (that’s probably my hypochondria playing up. It definitely isn’t a pulled muscle it just feels sore, and I like to be dramatic), but I am trying to power through – hopefully I’ll have sexy guns (I have never used that phrase in my life) when I’m done!

I finally caved and ordered takeaways!! To reward myself for three long days of work and all the pushups and situps, I got myself some bubble tea because I’m addicted to it. Sadly I really couldn’t get bubble tea in South Africa, but now I’m back in England, I plan on letting that delicious tea flow through my veins once again. I also ordered myself a pizza and some cinnamon rolls because what’s better than relaxing on a Friday night with a glass of wine and a movie than cheesy and sugary carbs?!

I had a nice long call with my boyfriend today, which was amazing. I also caught up with a friend from uni and had a fun video chat with my family.

Oooh, more random good news – my best friend and I were hoping to visit the Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio tour in London once I’m out of quarantine, so I tasked myself with getting tickets. Let’s just say it was a longer process than I realised … From day two, I logged onto the official site to see what slots were available and sadly, there was nothing available for when we were there. However, this didn’t deter me and my stubborn nature, so I checked the site every hour, right after my pushups, to see if something had become available. Finally, today, I was successful, so yayyy!!! I’ll be sure to do a post about that for you all once I’m free.

Otherwise, that was my day – I’ll check back in tomorrow!

Day five – 14/08

OMGGGGG!!!!

Today is the halfway point of my ten days ahhhhhhh!!! That flew by surprisingly fast. In two days, it will have already been a week since I left South Africa.

Anywho, as is the only way to spend a Saturday, I thought I would make today more of a lazy day. I would catch up on some blog admin (sorry, by the way, to anyone who has emailed me and I haven’t gotten back to you; things have been very chaotic this last week hence my absence), do a bit of writing, crack open a book and do a little mini-movie marathon.

You might ask why I’m doing a movie marathon when I have Modern Family to binge, but sadly I finished season 8, and I can’t access the last three seasons on my Netflix, so I’ve been forced to wait a bit on that… Those who know me well know that I’m a romantic movie superfan, and yes, I know they’re corny, but all that lovey-doveyness and happy endings is something I really enjoy, especially in a world that can be really negative and stressful.

Now, please don’t judge me. Today I am watching all three Kissing Booth movies because the third one just came out on Netflix. I read all the books a while ago and then watched the first movie and thought it was such a fun concept, so I just had to finish what I started. I’m not going to share any spoilers for the movies or too many of my thoughts because I think those might be spoilers too, but I will say that I didn’t think they needed the third movie (yes, the second one ended on a cliffhanger, so it needed to be resolved), but for me, I preferred the first two and if you’ve watched the third one, feel free to email me so we can discuss just because I would hate to spoil the end for others who haven’t watched it yet.

Otherwise, that was pretty much my day, so I hope you’re not too bored of my quarantine experience diaries (let me know if you think there’s something I should add to it) and please post your thoughts in the comments section so we can chat! See you all soon!

Lots of Love

  2. Your posts are reminding me of my 2 week quarantine when I moved to Canada. I actually had more drama and at first I didn’t like it, but now I realize it actually spiced things up a little! Lol

      1. Yes! Especially when you have to order stuff online. Plus, quarantine just decreases your bandwidth. That’s why that first episode of Schitt’s Creek was so cathartic for me!

  3. Well done Blondey on all the exercising, try to keep it up, you will look “more fab” . Want to know if they take you outside for a walk or onto a roof top garden to smell fresh air? Over the halfway line for the “lockdown” now, when do you get released?xxx
