Heyyyy, all my lovely readers! How are you doing?
I’m loading up on some extra posts this week so we can get through all the Summer competition showcase pieces, but also because I really wanted to share some of my hotel quarantine experiences with you, so today I bring you the first installment in my hotel quarantine diaries!
Day one – 10/08
My first day in hotel quarantine was honestly … pretty uneventful.
I woke up at 7:30, despite my attempts to sleep in. Although technically it was 8:30 in South Africa, so I suppose that kind of counts? It felt weird not having my cat, the world’s most accurate alarm clock, waking me up, but sadly, that’s something I’m going to have to get used to again for a few months until I can make a plan to have him move over.
Breakfast got delivered right after I tried a home HIIT workout. I’ve made a promise to myself (and maybe to the little voice of my dad that haunts me every time I try to avoid exercise) to exercise every day. I’m going to spice it up by trying different ones every day.
For those who might be curious, breakfast was a tub of oatmeal, a granola bar, a banana, some yoghurt and a little croissant. I’ve never been much of a breakfast eater anyway, but it was pretty good.
The rest of the day was a mix between semi-productive and relaxed. I am busy editing a book for one of my jobs, so I caught up on some of the admin for that. I also caught up on some blog scheduling for this week for the Summer Showcase (by the way, if you aren’t following that, there are some fantastic entries on display so far that you can check out here). That was spaced between a few (read many) episodes of Modern Family, which I’ve started binge-watching. Has anyone else watched Modern Family?? No spoilers, please I’m only on season 6!!
At the end of the afternoon, I had a long bath, followed by dinner and my 3rd video chat with my mom. My mom has only just discovered how to video chat, so she’s testing it out on me.
And otherwise, the evening ended pretty peacefully with me in bed with, you guessed it, more episodes of Modern Family!! I have a feeling that all this peace and serenity isn’t going to last through this whole series … I guess we’ll see!
Day two – 11/08
It’s safe to say that the way I ended my day one diary was entirely true!
Because I thought it would be a good idea to keep myself as busy as possible whilst I’m stuck in a hotel room, I volunteered to take on extra hours in my part-time student job helping with the live chat. Let’s just say that was a very stressful and chaotic 8 and a half hours. It was great to help people through the chat, but I don’t think I have ever been so thankful to close my laptop at the end of the day.
And that’s my go-to Netflix viewing device!!
And where I’m writing my novel!!
Anyway, apart from the huge chunk of my day being taken up by work (which I am thankful for because voila, day two is already over), I did my day 2 PCR test, booked train tickets and did more admin.
Woohoo! Who doesn’t love admin, hours on a laptop and shoving an earbud down your throat and up your nose??
For a food update, it was definitely better yesterday than it was today but still pretty good for food that they have to prepare for loads of people that is easy to stick in little boxes to leave outside our doors. They are being really eco-friendly, at least by not using plastic at all with the food parcels and making sure it’s all recyclable.
My Modern Family binge-watching was slowed down quite a bit because I’m working (tomorrow and Friday as well), so if you don’t mind, I’m going to end this diary entry so I can climb into bed and enjoy some rest (and some hard-earned episodes).
Bye, everyone!! I’ll update you again in a day or two!!
Lots of Love
Blondey on a Mission xxx
Glad you had a great day. Must be quite mentally exhausting to be in a confined space that long. So, take care and have some fun! 😀
PS: If/when you finish modern family, I’d highly recommend Anne with an E if you haven’t already watched it. It’s a quick, lovely series! 💖

Thanks Blondey, have been worrying about you, trust you to take on more work, thought you had enough on your plate. Thank goodness I also don’ enjoy breakfast as apart from the croissant, the rest would go to the birds.
Take care xxx
