Blogmas Day Twenty-One – Letter to Santa

Before Blogmas started, I spent a fair amount of time scrolling through other blogs, Pinterest and just brainstorming in general to see if I could actually come up with enough post ideas for Blogmas. When I saw this one, I was undecided about whether or not I wanted to do it.

One part of me thought that this was only a ‘kid’s thing’ and that it would be silly, but another part of me felt that this could be such a fun idea. The more I thought about it, the more I realised what a fantastically fun idea it could be to write a letter to Santa. I’ve seen quite a lot of other bloggers writing letters to Santa and yes it’s not quite the same as doing it when you’re young, but it’s still great fun to get into that whimsical, magical mood.

I haven’t written one in years, and I thought it would be a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. I’ve always been a big believer in the magic of Christmas, and I don’t think anything quite captures that joy and sense of belief like writing a letter to the big man in red himself. Plus, just because I’m twenty now doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some of these child-like traditions, so why not?

Dear Santa,

First things first, how are you doing?? I’m sure this is going to be a Christmas like no other with this pandemic going on, but at least you don’t really have to worry about it where you are. I hope Mrs Claus, the reindeer, the elves and everywhere else in your workshop/village/grotto are well and have had a good year too.

I am more excited than usual for Christmas this year (and that’s saying something because as my whole family knows, no one quite gets into the festive cheer like I do). Not just because I’ve been able to go home for the holidays to be with my family, but also because with all the challenges of this year, I think we all need this time to appreciate what we have. Plus it’s one of the first Christmas’s we’re spending at home in a while. Even though the whole family can’t be there this year, which is a bit sad, I’m still so happy and grateful that I get to spend it with so many people that I love and care about.

This year has seen a lot of changes for me. I finally started university in England, which means I’ve moved overseas to somewhere a heck of a lot colder than home in the middle of a pandemic. Even though it’s only been one term, exhausting as it may have been, it’s been such a fantastic experience. It’s crazy to think how much my life has changed over this year, but it’s even crazier to think about how much I’ve changed and how proud this makes me. For one thing, I fit into those shorts that were way too small for me at the start of the year so yayyy!! Not sure if that will still be true when I go back to uni after eating my way through Christmas with my family though. I’m also so proud of my family, my boyfriend and friends for everything they’re achieved too in the last few months. I’ve missed them so much at uni, but it just makes getting to spend Christmas with them all so much more special. That being said, I think one of my big wishes this year would be for you to please keep them safe as much as you can while I’m away and through this pandemic, so I can give them all the biggest hug when hugging those outside of your living social bubble are no longer illegal.

Going to university has helped me open my eyes even more to things that I’m passionate about and things that I want to do and change – not just in my small space but for society too. Yes, I know that sounds dramatically optimistic, but I think the most important step in making a difference is wanting to initiate that change because it starts the ball rolling and before you know it, momentum is carrying it forward all on its own. I have a lot of things that I really want to get going next year, and I know I will definitely be biting off more than I can chew but what’s life without a few extra challenges? 2020 has taught me so many important things, such as not taking the important people or moments in life for granted, and that if you want to see change, you have to be willing to start it right now and stick to what you believe in. I have so much to be grateful for, and I want to thank every single fantastic person in my life who has helped me, supported me, given me the constructive criticism I need and has just been a positive light in my life (that includes all the incredible people who follow my blog because I would not have made it through this Blogmas without them, and my mom and my boyfriend for the unlimited support they’ve given me).

This year, there’s honestly nothing I could ask for apart from my wish above because I’m home with my amazing family, my boyfriend and my cat. Except for maybe a few books … I don’t think you can ever have too many books so perhaps a few more books to read please? (Like David Attenborough’s new book – a Life on our Planet, or maybe you can help me find a way to bring my cat over to the UK faster? and if it’s not too cheeky, can you use some of your Santa magic on wildlife conservation to help save the polar bears, elephants, snow leopards, orangutans and all the other poor animals under threat??)

Thanks Santa – I hope you stay safe and have a successful Christmas!! I know my niece is so excited for you and the joy you bring to everyone is sorely needed this year I think so thank you for always bringing some extra love and magic into our lives.

When was the last time you wrote a letter to Santa? If you wrote one to Santa this year, what did you ask for? If you were to write a letter to Santa, what would you ask him to bring you? Did you feel whimsical writing a letter to Santa this year if it’s something you haven’t done in a while? Let’s chat in the comments section!!

Lots of Love

      1. I loved it! Nothing much really, just that everyone could have a safe and Merry Christmas, that everyone in the world could like be happy for a day you know? Also, that I could get closer to everyone who I love and spend more fun time with them 😄

  1. Oh Blondey
What a really “nice” blog, what a good idea.
I am going to write a letter now to Santa, I will also be asking for help looking after my family, do you think I can ask Santa and his Elves to take pain away from my Daughter?? Think I will do this anyhow, never know though.
Have a wonderful day with your family and boyfriend .
I think Santa somehow managed to leave a couple of gifts and stockings under my tree already, not sure how he managed.

  2. This was so cute! You’re never too old for child-like traditions. Like Walt Disney once said, “Who says you have to grow up?” That’s one of my favorite quotes of his. I also love that you wish for your friends and family to be safe.
