A SUPER SPECIAL POST – RedRadio Interview

Hi everyone!! I hope you are all having a sparkling Saturday so far and an even more relaxing weekend in general. I’m not usually one for lounging the day away in bed, but even I gave myself an extra hour in bed this morning because hey – it’s a Saturday!! Plus it was cold this morning, and I wasn’t in the mood to freeze my butt off just yet.

I honestly wasn’t sure what to write about for today – I’ve got quite a few ideas and posts in the making, but none of them felt quite right until I was saved by an entirely unexpected source.

A close friend of mine from my old high school approached me about doing an interview for their radio show and seeing as it’s lockdown and I love my friend and helping out I thought it would be such a fun idea!

Just to give you all some context, I am an alumna of Redhill High School (Johannesburg South Africa). I matriculated at the end of 2018, and I was probably known as being one of the biggest geeks and a constant presence in the Arts and Culture Department. After I left, the school established its own radio show called RedRadio – it’s run for the students by the students.

Now I know you might think that a high school-level radio show can’t be something too fancy but let me stop you right there. RedRadio is phenomenal!! It’s a professional level radio show with the executive producer and host (Thomas Hele) being another good friend of mine, and several student hosts have their own time slots every week. Julian, my friend who invited me to do the interview, has his slot on Thursdays from 3-4pm South African time (GMT +2) and he does ‘topical discussions peppered with excellent social commentary. You can expect to hear a great show filled with listener interaction!’ They have their own app, they’re that good!!

Right now that you all sort of know the context, Julian approached me to do an interview about running Tall Blonde Tales and what it’s like to have a lifestyle blog so of course, I was ecstatic to be invited to chat about this. You all know how much I love this blog 🙂

In the run-up to the actual live broadcast and interview, I will admit I was a little bit nervous (read practically sweating with anxiety with a pit of writhing snakes making knots in place of where my gut should have been). I’m guessing that half of the nerves were around worrying I’d sound stupid during the interview (I don’t think anyone likes the sound of their own voice, at least I don’t). The other half were around me and my never-ending technological battles. I was so scared my laptop would decide to be spiteful and bomb out right in the middle of the interview, or that my audio would be terrible and no one would be able to hear me through all the static. Thankfully my little brother came to my rescue (very odd and unusual but I’m super thankful) and leant me his gaming headphones that have a very clear microphone. Thanks, little bro!

Thankfully, even though I’d gone through a dozen worst-case-scenarios in my mind, the interview went so well, and it was such a blast to do.

And that brings me to the main part of this blog (I’m sorry that took so long …)

Julian asked me several questions about blogging, and I spoke about how I came up with the name Tall Blonde Tales (you’ll laugh when you hear Lizzie’s initial thoughts on it), what it’s like running a blog on a daily basis, and some of the things I was doing wrong with the running of it but have changed now, what some of my favourite posts to write are and just some advice for bloggers and what a wholesome community the blogosphere is.

If you don’t listen to the interview to hear me babbling on (I wouldn’t blame you – I find it so cringey listening to recordings of myself), then please listen to support RedRadio! They really have done such a phenomenal job with this platform, and I am so proud that I am friends with some of the fantastic, talented individuals responsible for running such an established radio show.

Before I sign off, I just want to say a huge thank you again to RedRadio and Julian for hosting me and inviting me to talk about my blog – it was such great fun and a fantastic experience!! (You can also check out Redradio in general and my Julian’s other alumnus interview with our close friend Hammond here)

If you guys listened to the interview … in fact – please go listen to it right now! I’ll wait …

Did you listen to it?? What did you think? Also, what are your favourite posts to read that I write? And are there any posts you’d like me to do more of?? I’m always open to suggestions! Xx

Last but certainly not least, thank you all so much as always for reading Tall Blonde Tales. I really appreciate the constant support from you guys (we’re almost at 500 followers eeeek I’m buzzing in anticipation!!) Don’t forget that if any of you would like to submit guest posts or do a collab with me, please don’t feel shy and either contact me or simply reach out in the comments section. 2. I loved listening to your interview. You give such tips in this, especially about how to network with other bloggers. I didn’t realise this for a while when I first started but you’re so right. Its important that you build those connections with other people!
