No one ever likes to think that their relationship will come to an end because, let’s face it, no one likes going through a breakup. However, as much as we all love to hope that all of our relationships are bulletproof and nothing can shake them, sometimes a break up is inevitable. Getting over a break up can often be one of the toughest experiences we go through, especially depending on the circumstances and reasons why the break up happened. Now, I know that if you are going through a breakup, saying that “the sun will come up tomorrow” is not exactly what you want to hear. What I can tell you though, having experienced one or two breakups myself, is that as hard as it is there are ways to handle it and keep yourself together. Today I’m collaborating with a close friend of mine to write this blog post (her words indicated by the quotation marks), and we will be discussing how you can handle a breakup. We both know what a terrible experience it can be, but having both lived through it, we know that it is possible to get through it and handle it without falling apart. What a lot of you might not know is that I am currently taking a gap year, having graduated high school at the end of 2018, and am filling my gap year with short courses — kind of to help me figure out what I’d like to study and do in the future. I recently came home from a short course at Oxford University in England and am about to leave for another short course at Stanford University in the USA. I am currently preparing for my Stanford trip, and I kept thinking back to all the practical things I had learnt while on my Oxford short course and I felt that this was something that someone else might need. After all, no instructions were lying around about how to handle a short course and so, for all of you who might need this advice in the future, or those who are considering signing up for a short course, I’d say go for it! Just make sure that you read some of this advice beforehand because I wish I’d had this before I left. At least I now have it for round two. So if a short course sounds like it would be in your future, I’d highly recommend just taking a quick skim read of this before you embark on your journey xx
Studying can either be a plague that you avoid at all costs, or it can be a benefit to you that aids you in your success. It all depends on your approach to it. Tests and exams are present throughout the school year no matter what education system you use, and right now, a lot of my friends are currently writing exams. This got me thinking about studying, and how sometimes we study without really making it work for us and I remembered that there are several things that you can do to study both effectively and successfully. My little brother has only started high school this year and will be writing his first set of exams soon, and so with this in mind, I am dedicating this blog post to my younger brother (and everyone else who needs some advice or tips when it comes to studying, tests and exams), as the advice that I wish I’d gotten before I started writing exams. Long distance relationships. Sometimes in life, relationships have to adapt to the way life goes, and sometimes, that means choosing to have a long distance relationship. Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a long distance relationship. A lot of people are in them, and they stay together through the period they are apart and manage everything just fine, but don’t let this fool you into thinking it is always easy. Just like a relationship where you live five minutes away from each other, long distance relationships still take effort, work and commitment from both people. For those of you who are in long distance relationships or have been in one before, I’m sure that you can agree that it is not always easy. Sometimes problems crop up, and there are issues or concerns, and the distance makes it harder to deal with them. The trick is not to let the distance become the problem.

Oxford, a city famous for its famously academic, fantastic university but also celebrated authors, well-known filming sets and just loads of fun things to do. I’ve been in Oxford, England for the last eight weeks doing a short course, and as much as I’ve spent a lot of time studying and working, I have also spent lots of time exploring the city and trying to find fun things to do with all of my dorm mates. From the moment I started this blog, and that was only three and a half months ago, people asked me why. Why was I starting a blog? Why do I want to blog? Why do I continue blogging? I ask myself these questions almost every day. There are thousands of blogs out there, and despite the positive feedback I get from all of you, my readers, I still wonder about why I do this. I doubt my abilities to produce good content, grow this blog and turn it into something that might be profitable all the time. But you see, as much as these questions can come from a place of self-doubt, they are usually the most important to answer. If you can’t tell someone why you are doing something, then why are you even doing it? Another ‘why question’ – see? They are everywhere! For many countries around the world, tomorrow (Sunday, May 12th) will be Mother’s Day. A chance for us to shower our various mothers in love and appreciation and if you are the mothers, get lots of sincere love and a day filled with fun. Now, as much as getting a gift can be important for some on Mother’s Day, I think the most important thing to think about is how to spend the day. You want to make sure that you get to celebrate it in a fun and exciting way, but also in a way that everyone will enjoy. Everyone is different though, which is why it can sometimes be hard to decide how to spend this lovely day. Sometimes, people spend Mother’s Day with the whole family, and there are big family events and celebrations, but other times, it is just the two of you. No matter how many of you are celebrating Mother’s Day together though, you all deserve to do something fun and that you enjoy. There is that word. The dreaded presentation, cue a dramatic sigh from the audience. I’m sure that everyone has had to do some form of presentation at least once in their life. It could have been a speech or a presentation with a slideshow, or even just prepared reading, but I am sure that none of us have been able to escape doing a presentation. For some of us, presentations are a breeze, and you can cook one up in five minutes and speak as if you are the most put-together confident person in the room. But that is not always the case. Nobody likes cleaning (okay I know that is a broad statement, but it isn’t common for people to enjoy cleaning so if you do happen to like cleaning, please ignore that statement) but it is something that we all have to do. One place we all have to clean though is our bedrooms. No matter where you live, whether it is with your parents, in a dorm or an apartment or house on your own, the one room that all of those have in common is your bedroom. Now some people don’t think cleaning is essential, but nobody truly wants to live in a messy space because it is not hygienic, it can make you feel claustrophobic, and it is simply not good for your mental state to live somewhere messy. Stress is an everyday occurrence that, no matter how hard we try, we cannot really escape. There are things like work and school that seem to be perfect for getting us to freak out and turn into these gigantic stress-balls that are so pumped full of anxiety that we can’t do anything else but stress. Sometimes it is hard to escape this (because let’s face it, work or school will always be stressful at some point), but there are ways to deal with stress so that you don’t end up letting it control your whole life and everything you do.
