A little life update

Heyyyy there everyone!! I hope you’re all doing well and have had a fantastic start to the weekend so far. Today I’m just doing a short little post because it’s a special occasion for me.

I know I’ve been a bit of a ghost in the blogosphere this week and I said I was going to try and catch up on all of my tags, but unfortunately, something came up …

I’M OFF TO UNIVERSITY!!! (almost … once I complete my 2 weeks of isolation)

For those who don’t know, I’m starting university in the UK at the end of September, and for most of this year I’ve been slowly prepping for that (online forms, various registration processes, applying for visas, making lists but that’s a whole blog post on its own). Because of COVID, everything has been somewhat chaotic, particularly in various admin departments, and this week everything went from peaceful to absolute stress and chaos in about 3 seconds. I’ve been waiting, not so patiently, for my student visa to arrive, and this was quite stressful because there are only a limited number of flights out of the country. If my visa came late then I would miss my flight, have to try to find another flight with an open seat, still do the two weeks of quarantine in the UK, but then I would be late for the start of uni. As you can imagine, I’ve been somewhat anxious because of all this.

On Wednesday, thankfully, someone powerful decided to have mercy on me, and I finally heard back about my student visa and collected it that same day. The only problem though is that gave me less than 48 hours to pack and get everything ready for my flight (which was yesterday).

My room looked like a bomb had gone off in it, I think I freaked out my cat a little with the sheer volume of clothes everywhere and all the suitcases on the floor, and I was frantically making plans to say goodbye to different people. Fortunately, everything came together, my boyfriend and family helped a lot, and I got on my plane and flew over the great blue ocean (not technically anyway, most of the flight consisted of flying over Africa).

So now I’m here in the UK, sitting out my two weeks of self-isolation before I head up to uni and start that next segment (which I am both extremely excited and nervous about). I will try and make good on my promise to catch up on tags and awards, so please forgive me if you get spammed by lots of posts from me in the next two weeks. I’m also going to try and finally get that rebranding I’ve been planning activated by the time I start uni so hopefully, that will happen too.

Before I sign off on this post though, I’d like to ask ALL OF YOU a question or two. What sort of posts do you enjoy the most here or what posts would you like to see more of? I’m thinking of doing more university-related lifestyle posts (perhaps starting a YouTube channel or podcast in parallel with this – if my ambition gets the better of me) – what do you think of that? Lastly, if you have any feedback for me about things I can do better or improve on Tall Blonde Tales, I’d really appreciate it so please fill in a contact form or just leave your notes in the comments section. Now I’m off to have a cup of tea, but I’ll see you soon!

Lots of Love (from England now)

  3. I’m so happy for you! Best of luck on all you’re doing and going to do. ❤ I'm glad your flight went well! I'm sure it's been nerve-wracking (waiting to hear back from people is super challenging), but you made it through and that's awesome. 🙂
No worries on pushing the tags and awards forward! I'll look forward to reading them when you have the time to write them. I move stuff around on my blogging calendar, and I do my best to follow what I've written in, but when life events inevitably come up I make adjustments. That re-branding sounds awesome as well!
I was just looking at your posts in the Reader (I haven't been following you for long so I wanted to see what content you've shared). I really like your tag/get-to-know-me type posts, and the inspirational/motivation ones! I'm not enrolled in school but I'm sure uni-focused posts will be very helpful for students so that would be great too!

      1. I know that with the pandemic your experience may be different than you imagined but try to still have as much fun as you can because I feel like first year is the best time to have fun and make friends since the work load isn’t too bad yet. You’re very welcome!

  6. University posts would be so so great! I am happy you have been able to get to the UK, when I read about your visa in one of your lasts posts, I got quite anxious for you. If you want to start a podcast, just do it. I am definitely not the best podcaster in the world, but it is so much fun & really easy if you use Anchor.

By the way, I am pretty sure you have already been nominated, but I just nominated you for the Liebster Award, if you want to have a look, follow that link:https://theenglishspeakingfrenchie.com/2020/09/13/the-liebster-award/ 🌷

      1. Aha, podcasting is a great way to get started as it is faaaar less time-consuming than Youtube but if you feel like starting a Youtube channel, definitely do it, it would be so cool! 🌷

  7. Hey, I’m super happy for you! I’m glad everything worked out for you! I would love to see more posts about your university life, UK life, cool restaurants, sight seeing (if that’s permitted with the whole pandemic, if not, maybe in the future when things aren’t as crazy!). How you stay organized with your assignments, and anything like that.

I wish you nothing but the best in your new journey! I can’t wait to read all about it. 🙂
