Starting uni is a big deal, and the start of uni (freshers week) is a massive experience! Eeven though my fresher’s week was definitely not what people would consider normal *cough covid cough* (yes that was meant to be both ironic and a bad joke), I have helped with fresher’s events and still vaguely know what’s going on. Today’s post is going to be a bit chunky – fair warning – but I’ve split it up into a section of best steps to breaking the ‘transition to uni’ thing into manageable chunks, and then some tips for making the most out of freshers week. Right, enough dillydallying there’s a lot to talk about.

On the topic of Fresher’s week, though, I mentioned in a previous post that I’m thinking of doing a series on tips and advice for university, and I figured this was the perfect starting point! Fresher’s week is not something you can escape, and it can be the best time ever, but it can also be very overwhelming and stressful, and I would hate for your first week at university to be anything other than exciting and delightful. Sooooo… here are my 12 tips for surviving your Fresher’s week at university! I hope you enjoy it and find it helpful!
After a year and a half of travel and short courses, the gap year is finally coming to a close as just last week, I made a very important decision. That’s right – I’m going to university! September in the UK, here I come 🙂
So, as I might have mentioned in previous posts, I am currently taking a gap year to try and figure out what I’d like to study at university. This summer, I was lucky enough to spend eight weeks at Stanford doing one of their programmes. While it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows the whole time (because hey what is ? Apart from Disney world …), it was an incredible experience. I learnt so much this summer, from inside my different lectures to the experiences I had outside the classroom and today, I would like to share that experience with all of you. Now I know this isn’t like my other blog posts, as I usually stick to giving advice, but I thought it would still be fun to chat about. Life is all about learning from experience, and that is what happened to me. So, I thought perhaps you could all still get some advice through reading about my experiences. Maybe it will inspire you to try out a short course, or reflect on a learning experience you had. Or, perhaps this post will just read like a (hopefully) good diary entry where you laugh at all of my experiences. Either way, I hope that you enjoy this blog post and can get something good out of it, even if it isn’t my typical advice-filled blog.
Everyone tells you what to do in college, hardly anyone ever tells you what not to do (even though that is usually the most important). Here is my list of what NOT to do in a dorm room, for all those who want to make sure they don’t humiliate themselves on day one.
You know the saying that “every bird has to leave the nest”? Well, that may be true but did anyone ever ask the bird how they felt before they were meant to fly off into the vast world all by themselves? I’m sure that they felt scared and nervous about it and maybe even had doubts that they would manage. Well, that right there is the feeling we get when we leave home for the first time. If you are looking for tips for leaving home then you have come to the right place. Keep reading and join me on my own journey of leaving home.
