Laughing. Laughing is probably one of the most enjoyable things to do no matter who you are. It gives us a happy feeling and allows us to loosen up and feel lighter, but are there actually benefits to laughing? Tomorrow is the non-official holiday Moment of Laughter Day, so in honour of this holiday that should be made official, I would like to share with you all why laughing is so awesome and how you can do more of it (because let’s face it, we should be laughing more)
Life is full of ups and downs. I’d hope that most of us get lots of ups – where things are going your way, and you are riding the waves of the world like a pro. However, this is my sunshine and rainbows attitude without the reality filter. When that filter comes on though, you see that life isn’t always so awesome. Sometimes, you hit a rough patch, and it can mess with your momentum. You lose motivation to keep trying, and the thought of perseverance isn’t an option. You can’t let that happen though. Even though perseverance can seem incredibly hard, it only makes you tougher and stronger for next time the unkind part of life tries to knock you down. Recently, I hit my own rough patch. I started to think that I should just give up. My mom, however, spoke to me and helped me remember that it doesn’t matter how many times you fall, all that matters is that you get back up again. So if you are also trying to persevere through something challenging, here are some tips to help you with it!
Our world has been made so much easier because of technology and travel is no exception to this. Years ago, we would have to do extensive research before even thinking about planning a trip, and we would have to spend hours and hours ensuring that we had compared all the right hotels, gotten the best bookings possible and made sure that we had everything we needed for the trip. That is no longer the case. Now, some apps do all the work for us. You don’t need to worry about travel agents or carrying large paper maps anymore because the digital world around us has got it covered. I happen to be quite a traditional person – choosing paper over tech any day of the week – but even I cannot deny how much easier travelling is when I have these apps to help me. Travelling is such a fantastic experience. You get to see new and exciting places and meet new and exciting people. There is so much to learn from just one short trip that you might think: “Why haven’t I spent my entire life travelling?”. The truth though, is that sometimes travelling alone can be a lot more intimidating when it is a reality instead of just an idea in your head. You mustn’t let this scare you though. Doing things by yourself are meant to be a bit more challenging – you don’t have ready support behind you, and you might not have people there to guide you. But let me tell you that once you get past the intimidating thought of it, you will have so much fun that you won’t want to go home. I’ve done a lot of travelling in my life, but only a small portion of it has been on my own. However, even though I have only had limited experience, I have learnt (from these trips and others around me) how to travel alone successfully and in a way that I can enjoy myself even when being responsible. Patrick Lindsay said that “Every new friend is a new adventure” but sometimes making new friends can be hard, especially if we might be shy or not confident enough to brave that newness. There are so many reasons why people diet. It might be to get that summer body in time for vacation or just to lose some weight. Whatever it is, we all have our reasons. The only problem is that dieting is not meant to be a lifetime change – it is intended to be something that we do for a few months, and then once we achieve our goal we go back to our regular nutrition habits.
