The Ultimate Autumn Bucket List

Hellloooooooo everyone!

Whenever someone asks me what my favourite season is, I’ll usually jump to either summer or winter. I know they’re cliched, but winter is always so warm and cosy, it’s a never-ending excuse to drink hot chocolate and winter (at least where I am now) means Christmas and all the jingly trimmings, treats and flavours that come with it. On the other hand, summer reminds me of home, and it’s lots of clear blue skies, swimming, watermelon, and never putting shoes on, which is equally fun. But just because I instinctively jump to those two seasons doesn’t mean that I don’t love the others.

Because Autumn is ticking away, and it’s now getting close to December (which is undeniably WINTER), I felt like I hadn’t given this season enough appreciation this year. Besides, because Blogmas will be starting in basically just over two weeks (which means two weeks left to submit your guest posts, so don’t forget!! Also, if you’re considering sending in something for Blogmas pls pop me a comment just so I know to look out for your email), that doesn’t give me very much time to enjoy Autumn.

Now I’ve seen a lot of other bloggers do this sort of thing, and because we all know I’m a sucker for lists, and I’m finally in a country where I can do these things a little bit more, I thought I’d share an Autumn bucket list, both for all of you to tick off what you’ve done, and also to give us some inspiration of fun things to do before the festive season takes over!

Walk through (or jump) into a big pile of autumn leaves.

This one is great fun whether you’re 5 or 25. There’s just something so joyful about springing into or crunching through a big pile of those gorgeous autumn leaves. Here in Durham, the roads are always covered in mustard, pumpkin, and cherry leaves (not sure why I used all foody descriptions, but oh well!), so I always get to saunter through the leaves at this time of year.

Bake something comforting

I was going to have this as ‘baking a pie’ then as ‘baking something with pumpkin’ or ‘baking something with apple’, and it just felt too restricting, so at the end of the day, so long as you bake something warm and comforting I think that counts! Although I think, for authenticity, it has to be either a pie or something with pumpkin or apple just so it fits the autumn vibe.

Visit a pumpkin patch.

This is one of those very Instagrammable things to do during this time of year, and I can understand why! There’s just something so fun about picking your own food, and I am obsessed with pumpkin. The only sad thing is that people don’t eat much pumpkin in England. It’s more just a seasonal thing for Halloween pumpkin carving. My friends and I were planning to go pumpkin picking this term, but sadly things just got too busy – I did manage to buy a few pumpkins for cooking though if that counts?

Snuggle by the fire

As the temperature outside drops, and oh my word is it dropping, there’s nothing quite as suited to this season as finally getting the fire burning again and snuggling up in front of it. Sadly, I don’t have a fireplace in my flat, but I’ve been able to sit in front of a super toasty bonfire, and I can still kind of snuggle up with my blanket in front of my heater.

Enjoy an ‘autumn drink.’

I had a similar problem with this one as I had with the baking option. There are just way too many seasonal drinks to choose from!! So, instead of restricting yourself to just one, try to just have one seasonal drink and then if you’re feeling adventurous, go from there! By my research, appropriate choices include apple cider (hot or cold), pumpkin spice lattes and chai tea, although I think chai is more of a Christmas flavour but no complaints from this side of the screen!

Have a movie day

This ties into snuggling in front of the fire. When the weather gets all cold and dusky, sometimes the only thing to do is call it quits and have a movie marathon. I know that’s not the most productive mentality (especially with the amount of work I’m sure we all have piling up), but can you think of anything better than being wrapped in a blanket with a hot drink and a long list of movies?

Make chilli

This was a new one I came across, but I’m glad to add it to my list! Chilli is one of those really hearty meals that genuinely warms you right up, so it’s perfect for this time of year, especially if you get the spice levels right! Chilli can either be done with meat or vegetarian, and it can be a really nice meal to make a few batches for yourself or have with some friends for a night in. I’m actually planning on making some chilli soon, so maybe I’ll share my recipe hehe.

Take a brisk walk as the sun sets

I’m not one for ‘brisk’ anything, but here in Durham, there isn’t much choice as I walk pretty much everywhere, and it’s the North East of England, the weather is brisk on a good day! However, you can turn the changing climate into a fun activity if you take a walk in the afternoon. Not only is it good exercise (and the weather is just cold enough to keep you from sweating, but not too cold, so you freeze), but you can also go somewhere scenic and watch the sunset. How perfect?!

Roast marshmallows and make smores.

This is definitely still on my bucket list to do, although there may be a few complications considering I don’t have a fireplace and my stove is electric… Making smores is a childhood favourite and a great small sweet treat that is super cheap and easy to make. Plus, if you make it right, it’s also all warm and gooey. Let’s see if I can actually make some of these though.

Buy a new pair of cosy socks.

Last but not least, you can’t go through Autumn without adding a new pair of fluffy or cosy socks to your collection. I’m not a big sock person, but walking around the flat barefoot in these colder months is not fun, and sometimes you’re not in the mood for slippers. Also, cosy socks can be far more fun than socks because you’ve got way more choices available.

And there you have it! What did you think of this ultimate Autumn bucket list?? Are there any that you’ve done or any favourites you have from this list? Or are there any that you think are crucial to the autumn season that I might have missed out on? Let’s chat in the comments section!!

  1. Such a fun list! I’ve done almost all of this fall, I’m happy to say! Btw, u can actually make s’mores using an electric stove. My boyfriend and I do this every once in awhile for fun. And yeah it’s def not the same as a real fire, but it gets the job done and is still super fun! Ps the marshmallows will def get charred like they do over a fire, just be patient 😬 🔥 🍫

  2. I love fall walks during sunset, especially as the weather starts to get a bit colder! This was a great list, I’ll be keeping it handy for the rest of the season. I really enjoyed this post. Thanks for sharing ☺️

  3. I agree that movie (or TV show) marathons aren’t the most productive thing to do, but it sure is nice putting your work on the side for a bit and taking the time to relax! S’mores are so good, I hope you get to try some this Autumn!

  4. Cant say anything good about Autumn except for the colour of the leaves, I HATE the fallen leaves on my lawn, just looks so messy to me, for me this is “messy” season. my best is “Spring-time” all the new life abounding in my garden, the best. For the marshmallows, try holding above your switched on toaster, works well but keep on turning. Have a fantastic week. xxx

    1. Ohhh haha well always good to hear different perspectives. I guess I don’t have the same issue as I don’t have a garden with leaves to fall in here. That sounds a bit scary roasting marshmallows over a toaster … might skip that one 😂 thanks for reading Wendy xxx

  5. I made a pumpkin pie the other week because it always feels like such an autumn style bake. I need to do another one sometime actually because I ended up with way too much pumpkin over and had to freeze it 😂 I really want to try and do a lot of baking for the festive season too though.
I love the colours of autumn with all the leaves turning. The sound of my dogs feet crunching through them on her walk the other day was lovely too. And I adore pumpkin spice latte. I even found a sugar free syrup to make them at home!!
I’m wearing cosy socks right now 😅 definitely need them atm. And I love that picture of the cat stretched out by the fire 😍😍
I want to try and make a couple of chutney before Christmas (fingers crossed I do) which feels like quite an autumn style thing to do.
