It’s 2021 – Happy New Year Everyone!!

Hello everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

A bit late I know but better late than never hey?

Firstly, I wanted to say that I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year celebrating in whichever way you could. Fingers crossed that this year isn’t quite as disruptive as last year …

Secondly, I wanted to say sorry for going off the grid a bit after Christmas. I intended to take a week off from blogging, but I had some serious connectivity issues (hence my delayed responses to so many of your comments). I’m also doing this post a little later than I would have liked, but there were a few issues I had to iron out first.

This new year hasn’t exactly started the way I imagined it – I was meant to fly back to the UK for university today but now with the new COVID strains and new restrictions both in South Africa and in the UK my travel plans have been put on hold so I might end up doing my second term online and from home. I’ve also had to do lots of work on some university assignments, so I thought I’d instead give myself a bit more time to focus on those and then get back into blogging properly now (even though I still have tons of work to do and the stress is already building up … help meeeeeee!!)

Anyway … this is a new year and hopefully a new beginning. Sadly I think everyone’s wish that we could start this year without so many covid related problems hasn’t come true but let’s not let that get us down and stop us from doing what we want this year!

This year, there are quite a few things that I would love to achieve, and a lot of things I am looking forward to, but I’m just being very careful not to get too excited about them because just like my flight back to uni, COVID might very well decide to get in the way and cancel it, but hopefully that doesn’t happen too much. As for blogging this year, I am so excited to start another year here on Tall Blonde Tales (the second anniversary of the site is coming up which is very exciting). There are so many incredible bloggers out there, as well as all of you readers, who I owe so much to for helping me along this journey and for making the hours of work worth it. Your support is so appreciated so I would like to start this new year by saying thank you to all of you.

Now in terms of goals for this year, I’m trying to be careful and not set myself too many because university work never ends, I’m starting a part-time job, and I’m always falling victim to joining way too many projects or societies and then having no time because I am over-committed so this year I’m just going to set myself a few small goals.Β

  1. Work on being more eco-friendly and trying to be as close to zero-waste as possible by the end of the year. I am thinking of starting a challenge where every month I tackle a new aspect of sustainable living, so let me know if you’d be interested in hearing about that.
  2. Finish my health mission. Many of you know that I’ve been on a health and weight loss mission for quite some time. Last year I certainly achieved many of my goals and lost 17kg, and I have kept the weight off even though I’ve come home for the holidays and gave myself more than one or two cheat days. So this year I would like to finish the homestretch by losing the last 8kg and finish toning my body and embracing more aspects of a healthy lifestyle.
  3. Reach 1000 followers here on WordPress. This is a massive milestone for me, and it’s getting close, so I thought I’d make it an official goal.
  4. Publish some of my creative work, either here on the blog, through the Creative Writing Society I am part of or even independently if I sacrifice sleep and feel ambitious enough.

What about all of you?? What are your goals for this year? Are there any you are carrying over from last year? Also, what are you most excited about this year? I’m super excited to move into my flat in July and start living by myself (and hopefully with my boyfriend too) and to start my part-time job as a university ambassador.

Let’s chat in the comments section and be sure to let me know what you’d like to see on Tall Blonde Tales this year.

Best of luck for 2021 everyone!!!

Lots of Love

  1. Keeping it simple – Excellent idea. I try to do that, too, but always end up creating too many unreachable goal. However, COVID may have actually taught me to slow down. Even to take time off from blogging now and then. Hope you enjoyed your down time.

  2. Happy new year Tia! Glad your back and I’m sorry you couldn’t return to the UK for school, but I wish you the best of luck as we head into another semester! It would be nice if I could get 100 followers by the end of the year, but I just want to continue posting more content that makes me happy. A few other goals include exercising more, taking better care of my health, and getting rid of my YouTube addiction.

  3. We share one of the same goals- 1000 followers (that was my goal, but fell a little short). Right now, not much to be excited about- there are no plans at the moment.

One of my yearly goals may or may not happen- that usually is seeing at least one musical in person. Thinking of perhaps looking outside of Blumenthal—–Blumenthal Performing Arts has been a major part of working with other theaters to figure out how to bring it back.

  4. Hi Blondey,
What a interesting “blog”, wow, please be careful of attempting too much outside of Uni work, Stress you get and this cannot be good for your heathy lifestyle. Cannot believe you want to lose 25kgs altogether, never thought you needed same.
I will always be interested in reading anything you have written you can use me as a “dummy”
    Hope to see you soon.

Oh no – unfortunate that you couldn’t make it back for your new session. But more time with the folks might be nice?

Definitely want to read about your zero waste journey! I’m trying to live more sustainably too – would definitely be motivating to read about your journey.

Hope 2021 is a great year for you! XO
