Blogging advice #3 … Best blogging apps/tools to use

Heyyy everybody!! How’s it going?

We’re getting closer and closer to December which means Christmas holiday, hopefully going home to see my family and 25 days of Blogmas (by the way, thanks for the guest posts I’ve already received you are amazing, I’m looking forward to reading everyone else’s submission)- can you believe how quickly this year has gone by? What I can’t believe is that it’s already almost December yet it feels like I’ve done almost nothing this year. I guess that might be because of corona … 

But anyway – guess what … I’m back again with another blogging advice post!! This is the third in my blogging advice series, and today I’m talking about the best (well at least in my opinion) blogging apps and tools to use, because who doesn’t love a good app? Let’s get started! 

WordPress the app 

Okay, so this is assuming you use WordPress as your blogging platform (if not, then just skip over this app and move onto the next one). I know that if you have it on your laptop, you might think that having the app is a bit pointless but honestly, having the app on my phone is such a lifesaver. Having the app is a great idea because then you’ve got access to the inner-workings of your blog even when you’re on the move, or maybe can’t have access to your laptop. Plus, I actually find it a lot easier to go through comments on my phone than on my laptop so another great use for it. It’s also really handy if you just want to take a sneak peek at your stats. So essentially, the point I’m making is having the WordPress app is a lot more useful than you might think. 

Grammarly 

I will praise Grammarly until the day I die because it is just that amazing!! Being human and all, we are all prone to making mistakes on things like spelling, or maybe writing a sentence that we think makes sense but actually doesn’t. That’s where Grammarly comes in to save the day. For those who don’t know, it is a fantastic editing app that will point out any grammatical mistakes or points in your writing that you could improve. I love it so much because mistakes can happen and just quickly putting a post through Grammarly can help you fix any nitpicky issues that can detract from your post, and will give you the relief of knowing you haven’t hit publish with a glaring spelling mistake or anything like that. Grammarly is genuinely a lifesaver – try to convince me otherwise. 

Canva

For those of you who haven’t heard of Canva, it is a fantastic graphic design platform that can help you make amazing graphics for your blog, but the key here is that it is also really easy to use. Even if you’re not a pro at graphic design (believe me I am far from even being an amateur), Canva has got tons of amazing templates, graphics, pictures and more that are so easy to customise FOR FREEEE!!!! That’s right – all of this beautiful, easy-to-use stuff for free. Canva is where I do all my featured images, graphics and even my logo so go sign up for it! It is so worth it!

Microsoft Word 

You might think that this is an obvious one, but I actually know a lot of bloggers who don’t use Word, but I don’t know what I would do without it. I’m adding Word to this list because of one, very simple reason. The offline function! I used to write my posts on Google docs, but the problem with that is how to get writing done if I don’t have Wi-Fi. Word comes to the rescue because of the offline function, which makes it super easy to type up your blog posts wherever you are (in a nice format). Then all you have to do is copy and paste it into WordPress. 

Pexels 

I’m honestly not sure if this one should count because it’s included with WordPress, but it’s so useful I decided why not? And to just add it in. Pexels has thousands of copyright-free photos that you can use in your blog posts. Why I love Pexels so much is because they have so many pictures that you can almost definitely find one that suits your needs, and you don’t have to worry about giving credit or copyright infringement, which is always a huge relief. I know that many bloggers take their own photos (and that is incredible), but sometimes having access to a photo library where you don’t need to worry about taking your own pictures or copyright laws can be so useful. 

Wunderlist 

As a list-enthusiast, this app is a favourite!! If you like lists, then you definitely need this app in your life. You can create lists to share with people, or just keep it to yourself, and you can even set reminders. It’s the perfect tool for staying organised and making sure you haven’t forgotten anything, and I don’t think there is anything more satisfying than being able to cross things off a list so a whole app around that? It can’t get any better. 

Pinterest 

Last but certainly not least, I don’t think this list would be complete without Pinterest. You can use it for advertising your blog posts (which is a great way to drive some extra traffic towards your site), you can use it to connect with other bloggers or simply use it for inspiration. Whenever I’m struggling to come up with ideas or just looking for some more inspiration, scrolling through Pinterest always resparks my creativity. Even if it isn’t blog-related, I’m always scrolling through Pinterest to get ideas about different things I’m interested in. Be warned though … it can get addictive (especially if you get into the ‘cute puppies’ section).
