Questions asked by Kavya, You Shine Up

An inspiring quote you live by?

“Be yourself. No one can tell you you’re doing it wrong.”

Which is your favourite book and why?

Ugh I hate these questions because I’m really not good at picking favourites, plus I love loads of different books for different reasons. I think one of my all-time favourite books though is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – it was such a sweet, interesting and funny story about a character that I really related to and it had elements of almost everything I love (creative writing, a shy protagonist, cute love interest, witty narrative, school stress and way more).

What is the one thing you would want to change in this world?

I would want to change how human beings treat the natural world and the animals who live in it. We are not the only ones living on this planet and it kills me that we continue to destroy wildlife all over the world and the animals who live there. If I could somehow do something that prevented us from tarnishing the environment and endangering the animals that live there I would. This world and the creatures we share it with are so incredible and it’s so incredibly selfish that we are too short-sighted to realise that by killing the natural world and the animals in it, we will inevitably destroy ourselves – we aren’t on this planet alone, and without the other animals and the nature they live in, we’re going to struggle to continue with so many things.

Which is your least favourite subject? Why?

I think my least favourite subject was physics/chemistry. It may as well have been Greek to me, it was way too complicated and it didn’t make enough sense for me to try and pretend that I enjoyed it. Plus it had all the worst parts of maths so no thank you.

Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

There are so many things and people that inspire me all the time. Outside of the blogging world, I’m inspired by my parents and everything they do and within the blogosphere PoojaG from Lifesfinewhine and Olivia Lucie Blake are both a huge inspiration to me. Both of them have such incredible, insightful and helpful blogs but more than that, they are unbelievably kind and some of the nicest people to talk to.

Thank you once again so much to Kavya for nominating me for this incredible award I am so honoured to be tagged so thank you once again!!

Questions asked by Abi, Me & Stuff

What inspired you to start a blog?

I answer this question quite a bit but what inspired me to start a blog was going on my gap year. I had always loved writing and was trying to find a way to get back into it and my gap year presented me with the perfect opportunity – I had the time but also the inspiration (all the experiences I would be having) to finally get back into writing and I thought the best way to do that was with a blog.

Do you think blogging is fun?

Most definitely! Some things are less fun than others but blogging overall is such fun so if you’re thinking about it – just go for it! I promise you it’s worth it.

Did you ever feel like discontinuing your blog post?

Actually no. I love all of my posts because all of them were inspired by a special moment to me so while there are a few that may not have done so well as I expected, I’ve never felt like ‘discontinuing’ any of my posts.

What is your best quality?

I think I’d have to say my friendliness? Someone in my university res group told me I could make friends with a bush (not sure if that was a compliment or not) but I’ve always been a very friendly, open person and I think that would be my best quality (cause I don’t think neat handwriting counts).

A thing you would like to change about yourself or others?

A thing I would change about myself … wow how much time do you have? Just kidding, but in all seriousness I would probably change my softness. I often let people walk all over me (we’re talking metaphorically here not literally) because I’m a people-pleaser and don’t like conflict so I’d want to make myself tougher in that sense.

What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you?

Hmmm at this point in time I’d probably say meeting my boyfriend. We’ve been together for over three years now and he is my best friend, my shoulder to cry on (and a whole lot of other cheesy things I could say here). He’s helped me grow, and learn so much and I couldn’t imagine my life without him in it.

For those super-observant people, yes I am on crutches. I am very clumsy

What’s the best part about writing a blog?

The best part of having and writing a blog is getting to network with other bloggers. Sure, writing the posts and getting to be creative are great, but making friends and chatting/working with other bloggers is what makes it such a positive experience for me. If you took away the networking I think a lot of the spark and fun for blogging would go away with it for me.

What do you think is important for a blog?

Being honest/passionate about what you’re writing about. If you aren’t enjoying what you’re writing about, readers will be able to see that. Writing from your heart and truly enjoying the act of blogging is, for me, one of the most important aspects of having/writing a blog.

A fun fact about yourself.

I am terrified of chickens. (I still eat them though).

What is your biggest pet peeve?

I think people ignoring me or acting as if I’m invisible when I’m talking/trying to engage in the conversation with them. It absolutely drives me nuts but it also makes me quite sad.

Lastly, your favourite place on earth (apart from home obviously).

Disney world or Universal Studios!!! Okay I know I always say that one so let me actually scratch that and say …. My grandparents house in Durban. Some of my best childhood memories were made there plus it is just the most magical little place and it’s right by the sea.

The Liebster award #2

This is the 4th (I think?) Liebster award I’ve been nominated for in the last few weeks so from the bottom of my heart, thank you all and thank you especially to 3yellowdaisies for nominating me again for this incredible award. 3yellowdaisies has got such a fun blog so please don’t forget to check it out and give her site some love (you can do so by clicking here).

Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you
  • Answer 11 questions the blogger asked you
  • Nominate 11 bloggers
  • Make up 11 questions and ask them to your nominees
  • Notify your 11 nominees
  • Be sure to include the Liebster Award Logo somewhere in your post/blog

Questions asked by 3yellowdaisies

What’s your preferred method of transportation? (air, boat, bike, car, train, your own feet, taxi)

That’s a good question and I suppose it depends on where I’m going/for what reason. If I can, I actually like walking because you get to see more of what’s around you and it’s good exercise. But if I’m traveling further then I’d say car. Planes are a struggle for me because I’m tall, and with the limited legroom it always feels like I spend the whole flight with my knees tucked under my armpits.

What are your top three favourite hobbies?

Reading, writing, baking.

What makes you angry?

People being rude for no reason – why can’t we all just be nice?

What is your biggest fear?

I think being alone with no friends or loved ones. If you have people in your life that you care about and who care for you then nothing can be that bad so being absolutely alone would be a living hell for me.

If money were no object, what would you do all day?

I’d be a writer! Hopefully with all that free time and no economic pressure I might actually get to publish something haha.

What is the best thing you have ever been given?

My childhood teddy bear or my saxophone.

What is your biggest regret?

I don’t have any major regrets but I guess one thing would be not standing up for myself enough.

What is on your bucket list for this year?

I pretty much gave up on my bucket list this year thanks to covid … I think though I’d love to get involved as much as I can at uni (I’m starting in about two weeks), make a gingerbread house this Christmas, do something new and exciting with my blog and hopefully go to see the northern lights.

Photo by stein egil liland on Pexels.com

What’s your philosophy in life?

Be yourself. No one can say that you’re doing it wrong. Also, not to steal any thunder from Cinderella but just to be kind – it doesn’t really take any extra effort and with something as small as a smile you could make someone else’s day.

What’s the longest you have gone without sleep and why?

I’m usually pretty good about getting enough sleep … I haven’t even done any serious all-nighter’s for school because being an anxious person means leaving things for the last minute is not something I do. I guess I’d have to say 38 hours (ish) because I had a sleepover where my friends and I stayed up all night and then the next day I had sports and other commitments to do so I couldn’t catch up on my sleep.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hopefully finishing my degree or starting a masters, and starting a full-time job. At this stage I’d also want to have my own place and be completely independent.

The Liebster award #3

Last but not least, I want to say a huge thank you to Camille, the English Speaking Frenchie for nominating me for this Liebster award. Camille is such a lovely person and she has got such an interesting blog with a really incredible writing style and she is always so sweet and fun to talk to, so be sure to check out her blog here.

Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  • Answer the 11 questions given to you
  • Nominate 11 bloggers
  • Ask your nominees 11 questions
  • Notify your nominees once you have uploaded your post

Questions asked by Camille, the English Speaking Frenchie

What is your favourite book, and why does it have a special place in your heart?

I love lots of books for different reasons but one of my favourites is the Bookworm Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts and it is special to me because I really related to the protagonist and the incredible way it was written (insightful, interesting and fun) is what inspired me to start writing again so it really holds a very special place in my heart.

What is your favourite movie and why?

Picking favourites is so hard for me because I love too many things ugh!! Hmmm I’m going to go with a classic and say Lilo and Stitch – it’s one of my childhood favourites and it never fails to put a smile on my face. Plus, I can watch it over and over again and never get tired of it (well that’s true with most Disney/romance movies for me). Plus, Stitch is so cute and I love Pudge (if you know who Pudge is then we are automatically friends).

What are you passionate about? Why is that so important to you?

I’m passionate about reading and books in general (both reading and writing). They are important to me because I think books are just so magical – they widen your point of view; help you learn and grow plus they also help you escape to another world and it’s a great form of entertainment. I’ve always loved reading and someday I’d like to be an author (and the art of crafting an interesting plot with a happy ending really intrigues me).

What is your favourite time of the day, and why?

Oooh good question … I think I’d have to say early in the morning because the day is still new and when the sun comes up and you smell the freshness of the world it gives me a happy feeling. I also love early mornings because the world still feels peaceful.

What is your favourite smell?

This is such a tough one … it’s a tie between freshly baked cookies (all cookies) and fresh cinnamon rolls. I’m a sucker for anything sweet, chocolatey or with cinnamon.

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I was about to go on a gap year and really wanted to get back into writing and I figured it was the perfect opportunity – I had the time, and lots of fun experiences ahead that I could use as inspiration to start a blog.

In what piece of clothing do you feel instantly beautiful? (I bet there is at least one item you feel confident in?)

The dress I wore for my matric dance (prom). It also happened to be my one year anniversary with my boyfriend so there are a lot of special memories attached to that dress (it’s also so gorgeous it makes me happy just thinking about it).

What is your favourite season, and why?

Hmmm I think winter because it gives you the excuse to curl up indoors with all the seasonal beverages or just a hot cup of tea, you can wear fuzzy socks and beanies or just snuggle up watching movies and reading books in fluffy blankets. I also love how beautiful snow looks even though it can be annoying and really cold.

In what country would you like to live? That can be yours, or any other. Why?

England. I’ve always loved it there, the culture is amazing and even though people say it’s not as picturesque as it seems, it really is so amazing (I am literally sitting in a cottage with a cobblestone wall, an apple tree in the garden and sheep next door). Plus tea is the standard drink so I’ll fit right in.

What is the most important quality a person can have according to you?

I think kindness because being kind can make such a difference in the world but kindness inherently comes with loyalty, honesty and generosity so kindness is the most important quality for me.

What would be your best advice to your younger self?

Don’t be ashamed of who you are. Some people aren’t going to like you, and some people may think you’re weird but there are also lots of people who will love you for who you are. You are amazing just the way you are and you should never have to sacrifice that for someone else. The right people will never want you to be anything other than you.

I have a fear of getting chased by Canada geese. They’re confrontational because they’re used to getting fed by people, so if I unintentionally invade their space or I don’t have the food they like… the chase is on. 😳 no thanks!
Ooh an English cottage! 😩😂 that place sounds so beautiful! ❤️ I love looking at English gardens and estates and such. SO gorgeous!
