10 Fun and Funky Facts About Me

Today I almost didn’t have a blog post to share with you all. That’s right – you heard me correctly. Tall Blonde Tales has been up and running for over seven months and today was a day I almost had nothing to share. When I first started this blog, I promised myself that I would never miss a publish day even if I spent all of the night before wracking my brains to write a good blog post. Well … today was almost the day that I broke that promise. Now I’m not sure why I couldn’t think of anything inspiring to write about. I had a few ideas circling my head, but none of them felt right or inspiring until I almost gave up and said:

“Well, I might as well just give up on today if I can’t even write my biweekly blog post. I’ll just have to make myself feel better by watching a Hallmark movie or something.”

That was when it hit me. This blog has been up for more than seven months, and in all of that time, I don’t think I’ve shared too much about myself. Yes, I’ve shared some experiences and little bits of information here and there, but I haven’t actually shown all of you fabulous readers precisely who I am. So, inspiration found! Hallelujah! Today I thought I would share ten fun and funky facts about myself. It may not be advice, but I’m hoping that it will give you a little insight into who I am and be a fun way for you all to get to know me better. Without further ado, here are my ten fun facts. I hope you enjoy it and try to keep your judgment or laughter to the end. Thank you very much 🙂

Corny romance addict

My first fun fact is something that everyone finds out about me very quickly. I am an absolute addict to corny romance. Whether it is in the form of books (which I also love), movies, poems, quotes, little videos online or even just seeing it in front of me, corny romance will always get me happy, smiling and bubbly. Romance has always been my favourite genre to read and watch, and as an optimist, I soon discovered just how cheesy and wonderful (even if it is somewhat predictable) corny romance can be. So, if you ever want to see me in a good mood, give me one of my favourite corny romance books or stick me in front of a romantic Hallmark movie because how can someone say no to adorable romance and a happily ever after? Pessimists and those who dislike corny romance, you can try all you want to crush this opinion, but I’m sorry to say that this love of mine is indestructible.

Stuffed animal collection

Whoever said that stuffed animals no longer become okay when your age moves into double digits was clearly misinformed or having hallucinations. Stuffed animals are just the best! They are warm and snuggly, permanently happy, and are always there for you. Essentially like a pet except they don’t have to be fed. I am the proud owner of an extensive stuffed animal collection and let me say that it is my favourite collection (I collect quite a few different things). From teddy bears to stuffed owls with big shiny eyes or giant creatures that are the same size as you, if it is stuffed, fluffy and can be bought in a toy section, then I love it! My boyfriend even bought me a giant teddy bear for Valentines Day one year because he knows how much I love stuffed animals. If you think I’m kidding about my love or my collection, then come check out my bedroom. You’ll be proved wrong the second you walk through the door.

I have an entire shelf of empty notebooks

Don’t ask me why because even I can’t exactly explain it. All I can say, though, is that I love notebooks. There is just something so beautiful about a brand-new notebook. Its pages are fresh and have yet to be covered in scribbles, and the decorative cover is pristine. I guess I just love them so much. I never want to write in them and ruin their purity. So, as the years went on and I just couldn’t help but not indulge and buy new, beautiful notebooks as they came out in the stores, my pile of untouched notebooks grew until eventually, I couldn’t keep them stacked by my desk anymore. I now have an entire shelf in my cupboard dedicated to my pristine and empty notebooks. Yes, I know that I could use them and maybe one day I will. But for now, I am just happy for them to sit there while I go through more mundane paper, like exam pads. Maybe subconsciously I’m stocking up for a world shortage in paper, or I just happen to have a thing for buying and never using notebooks. Either way, I thought that counted as a fun fact.

Obsessed with stationery

Alongside my growing stacks of unused notebooks is my growing stationery drawers because another thing that I have quite a thing for is stationery. Pens, pencils (don’t get me started on pencils – I even have one of those fantastic old-fashioned winding sharpeners), highlighters, markers, you name it. Stationery, all the different types, are just so useful and can be used in so many ways that I think it is silly not to have as much stationery as possible. Yes, one highlighter might be sufficient, but your work will look so much more colourful (and you can categorise more things) if you have six different coloured highlighters. I was even that person who had the biggest pencil case in school and for exams because it had several pens, pencils, different coloured highlighters, two calculators etc. Partially because I never wanted to run out of ink or for my calculator to die and be left without a backup, but also just because I love using all different types of stationery.

I’m a tad OCD when it comes to organisation

I am known throughout my family and my various friendship groups for being a bit OCD when it comes to anything that might need organising. Parties, offices, even just reorganising a timetable or a bedroom – once I start, I can’t stop until everything is systematically ordered and pristine. While growing up, I had an au pair who was also big on organisation, and I think I picked this up from her because now it is like a compulsive tick that I cannot help but give in to. You might have picked up on this throughout the blog posts, by my always mentioning lists or that you should organise things first, and now you know why. It is because I live and breathe for things to be nicely organised.

Multifandom movie geek (don’t worry I’ll explain)

Another fun or funky fact about me is that I would label myself a multifandom movie geek. What I mean by that is that I am a huge fan (and am part of multiple fandoms) of different movie brands, but I am also a big movie geek in general. Some of you might know from my Geekness blog post that I am a big fan of Harry Potter, Marvel and Disney. I love and fangirl equally overall and you will never find a bigger trivia manic for one of these three fandoms than me (actually I’m sure you could, but I am such a big fan that I could probably hold my own against other fans. Except when it comes to Disney Trivia – I remain the undefeated champion). By movie geek though, I just love movies in general, especially from those three ‘brands’. I can watch a movie three times and have the whole thing memorised. Not because I am trying to memorise them but just because I enjoy them so much. What can I say? I’m just a multifandom movie geek.

I have way too many hobbies

You know how most people have one or two hobbies that they fall in love with and then stick to for years? Well, that’s not me. Not even close. In fact, I think that this is partly why I have been having such a hard time deciding what I like to study. I have way too many interests and, as a result, I have way too many hobbies. I love reading, writing, watching movies, baking, cooking, doodling, building puzzles, playing instruments (saxophone and piano), playing sport (I’ve played a lot …) and that is just the abridged version. There are just too many exciting things to do in the world to not try them out, and as a result, I have become one of those people who have too many hobbies.

I have weird phobias and fears

I’m sure that everyone is scared of something, and why should you feel embarrassed about that? The world is a scary place, and there are many logical things to be scared of. The only thing is, is that everyone thinks that my phobias and fears are weird, and I have quite a few of them. So firstly, I am afraid of the dark. My older brother made me watch a scary movie with him when I was young, and ever since I have been petrified of the dark. Even now, I can’t sleep without at least a tiny sliver of light in the room. I am also afraid of heights. Now I know that it doesn’t sound like a weird fear, but I happen to be over six feet tall. SO being that tall, mentioning that I have a fear of heights does get me a few raised eyebrows, but in my defence, the ground looks a lot further away for me. I am scared of spiders, but who wouldn’t be because they are creepy right? And lastly, I am terrified of chickens. I don’t know what it is, but they always seem to smell my fear and chase after me and let me tell you, there is nothing more terrifying than being chased down and jumped on by a squawking chicken. Laugh all you want, but chickens are really scary.

It should always be Christmas time

Another fun fact is that I love Christmas more than any other time, holiday, season whatever. In my mind, it could always be Christmas time, and that would just be the best because there is nothing about Christmas that isn’t fantastic. The food, the smells, the decor, the energy, the way that people always just seem to be a little nicer or that the world just feels a touch more magical than during other times of the year. Christmas always feels so magical and special to me, and as such, it is my absolute favourite holiday and time of year. I even have a tiny Christmas tree and cute little Christmas ornaments decorating my room all year because of how much I love it. Because that’s normal right?

Tea manic alert!

My last fun fact is that I am a tea manic! I have always loved drinking tea and will choose to drink it over almost anything else (except maybe water if I am feeling really dehydrated). In fact, I don’t even drink coffee – it has and will always be tea as my hot beverage of choice. I might be tempted by a hot chocolate on occasion, but my favourite will always be tea. I also don’t just love one type of tea. I love many different kinds of teas and am always looking for new and interesting ones to try so if you have any suggestions, I am all ears. Drinking so much tea is even the reason for one of my nicknames. Most of my friends and family refer to me as ‘Tea’, and my cousin even calls me ‘Teapot’.

For my questions of the day:

  • Do you have any fun obsessions?
  • What is your favourite hobby?
  • Do you have any weird phobias? If so, what? Don’t worry there is no such thing as a fear or phobia being too weird
  • What would you like me to blog about next?

I know that there are a lot of questions today, but I’d love to read your answers and interact with all of you, as well as hear your thoughts. As always, thank you all so much for reading.
